When you begin to look deeper into the incredible world of lighting, it becomes apparent why so many architects and designers refer to lighting as the fourth dimension of architecture. Lighting has the ability to transform our surroundings and allows us to shape perfectly the feeling that we want our hotel, restaurant or meeting facilities to embody.
Whether we are visiting a hotel or restaurant for business or pleasure, we feel relaxed and at ease if we are in cosy surroundings. Light plays a very important role in our well-being and, with carefully selected and beautifully installed lighting, it is possible to create an ambience that is comforting, welcoming and interesting.
At Louis Poulsen we believe that the shape of light creates space, while intensity, colour and placement of light fittings are all key components that should be carefully considered when working to create the perfect ambience.
A lobby or reception area is all about setting the scene and establishing the personality of the hotel. Are you going for big and bold? Cosy and intimate? Cool and contemporary? The first impression lasts, and the perfect lighting will instantly set the tone and make people feel welcome, comfortable and excited to explore the hotel further.
Ah, private time. In the room, the guest truly unwinds and relaxes, and here lighting can help to create a sanctuary and an atmosphere of comfort and relaxation. Soothing wall, floor and table lamps allow you to curate your own perfect home from home with light, while helping to define the various areas of the room in a natural and seamless way – like the work, sleeping, bathing, lounging, or dressing areas.
Exploring local cuisine is a must when travelling, and the way we experience food is about much more than what is on the plate. Lighting choices define everything from the way the food appears and the ease with which we read the menu to the comfort and confidence we feel during conversation. The lighting also indicates what to expect. Dim, warm lighting – and the restaurant is likely to be intimate, romantic, possibly upscale. Ultra-bright – and we think more along the lines of a casual diner or an ultra-modern concept.
The main purpose of lighting in meeting facilities is to provide the attendees with a feeling of clarity, focus, creativity and productivity. The ambience should be one of openness and collaboration, and lighting is essential in creating just that. The decorative aspect plays an important role too, as inspiring design can help to create an energetic and creative environment that will spark new ideas.
